End of the goat season

One of our guides Jason Bunch and myself squeezed in one last goat hunt this season. Claude Morrissey took this awesome Mountain Goat Sunday afternoon. The Billy is 6.5 years old, is 10" on the short horn! and scores 51 4/8" unofficial B&C!! He is huge. He was with two other big billys, and there were another 50 or so goats in the surrounding area. We had a great time, Claude was really a great sport as Jason and I dragged him all over the very steep countryside. Side-hilling when you have a size 15 foot is tough! We spent Sunday night in our sleeping bags and bivy sacks under the stars. Awoke to a nice icy morning and had a very heavy 8 hour pack out.

Now it's time to start getting ready for fall bear season!

We finished up our goat hunts late last week. Both hunters took nice Billies. I was guiding Jim and Darren came along as the packer. We had a great hunt and saw lots of mountain goats. Both guys could really go and we covered the country. Jim took his goat on the 3rd day.

Jason guided a couple from Texas. Jeff was the hunter and his wife Erin came along as his packer! They also had a great time and took their Billy on the second day. I am fairly certain that Erin will be the one hunting next time, trying to outdo Jeff's goat!

Since we all finished up early we were able to take a quick trip out to the Bear Camp, we caught a few Silver Salmon, saw lots of Brown Bears, and

just had a great ending to a great week.

Beginning of goat season

Picked up two goat hunters this afternoon and heading out early tomorrow morning. It's nice to put down a fishing rod and grab my rifle and binoculars for a change.

Hopefully the weather will improve, it's been a little extra wet this last month!

End of the fishing season

Finished up the month of September fishing. Caught lots of big silvers, and despite the high water, had a really good season!

The group of fishermen from Pennsylvania caught over 70 silvers on one day alone!

Sam called in by sat phone tonight and said they had a phenomenal day of fishing! They caught over 60 silvers!

Headed out to the bear camp in the morning. We have a group of fishermen from Pennsylvania. One of them has been with us several times, the rest are new guys!!

We are expecting a great week of Silver Salmon fishing and bear viewing on Kodiak!

I had a great week at camp guiding a French couple from DC. We had some pretty incredible bear viewing including a sow with three new born cubs and a nine foot boar.

We were also joined this week by my 8 year old daughter, Anna, who is becoming quite the fly fishing woman. (Only caught her hair with a fly once!)

Hiram had fun guiding a Filipino lady from Texas and two guys from Florida. They all had a great time fishing. The guys were pretty good with the fly rods up the river but I think Ruth out fished them in the salt water!

Between last week and this week it is getting to be quite an international camp! Norwegians, Germans, French, Filipinos and Floridians!

I just got back into town after spending a week with a group of fishermen from Norway and a group of wildlife viewers from Germany. We had great weather, good bear viewing, and good fishing. It was really a fun trip. Check out the video below of Tom trying to land a halibut!
